On the way back from work my car finally hit 100,000 kms last week.
In regards to the fan not blowing air on speed levels 1, 2 & 3 I went to Mazda and picked up a new blower motor resistor. This fix was fairly simple to find after collecting input from the guys on TOP. The blower motor resistor is located behind the glove box on 01-03 Mazda Protege’s. Prior models maybe different please refer to your owners manual.
For future reference I took a picture of the old vs new resistor and p/n:
To install the resistor..
- Always disconnect the negative terminal when working with electrical components on your vehicle.
- Remove the glove box by pushing in the corner tabs and pulling out the glove component.
- Undo the 2 screws holding the old resistor in place and undo the wiring harness
- install the new resistor and follow instructions in reverse order.
